After Stu Jackson left for the NBA, assistant coach Stan Van Gundy was promoted to head coach going into the 1994-1995 season. The Badgers were ranked 17th in the preseason poll and climbed all the way to 13th before a mid season tailspin.
Even with the season not going according to plan there was still a bright spot, Michael Finley. The senior guard averaged over 20 points and 5 rebounds per game on his way to being named All-Big Ten First Team. Finley was drafted 21st by the Phoenix Suns in the 1995 NBA Draft.
"Michael Finley's impact on Wisconsin basketball is as profound as any athlete we've had...Finley's fingerprints are all over the revival of our program in the 1990s, and his legacy is alive in the incredible success we've enjoyed over the past 30 years." -Chris McIntosh, Athletic Director
